The ocean, playground.<\/em><\/h1>\n

I paint surfboards for surfers. Then they take them to the water, and that's where the artwork transcends itself: in the waves, in the middle of the ocean with the surfer's performance.<\/p>\n

I.<\/p>\n

The board like canvas<\/em><\/h2>\n

A surfer before I was a painter, I see a surfboard as a support in its own right: a curved, taut surface, made for movement. The face must fit within the movement.<\/p>\n

With Alberto, shaper and artist at RT Surfboard, the pigments are applied directly to the foam blank and react like watercolor paper. They blend and overlap, a single, irreversible gesture. Fragile yet powerful.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n\n\t\t\t<\/div> \n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div> \n\n\t

A surfboard decorated in this way isn't finished when it leaves the workshop. The surfer transcends it through their athletic performance: aerials, turns, barrels\u2014the artwork becomes an integral part of the performance.<\/p>\n
